A pharmacist called Charles Alterton created a new soft drink about 130 years ago, which became known as Dr. Pepper.


The soda’s popularity grew to the point where the pharmacist couldn’t keep up with demand for Dr. Pepper. The Dr. Pepper Snapple Group was formed after the brand collaborated with Snapple, a juice firm. It stayed that way until Keurig paid $18.7 billion for Dr. Pepper in 2018.


Dr. Pepper stands out from soda brands because it is one of the few that is not owned by one of the two soft drink conglomerates.
