How to Make the Safest Crib for Your Baby?

A crib is one of the most essential things that you can buy for your baby. That is because it is the one thing that they will sleep in, so you want to make sure that it is safe for them to do so when you put them in it.

I highly recommend that you buy a new crib. Do not worry, it will be hassle-free from here on out considering that you can buy one from an online baby store.

The reason why I want you to buy a crib instead of relying on hand-me-downs is the fact that if you receive a crib from someone else- may it be from your brother, sister, aunt, or any other close relative- it may come with broken parts which may potentially be unsafe for your baby.

If you absolutely have to reuse a crib, make sure that you inspect it in its entirety just to make sure that there are no loose or broken parts. If there seems to be something broken, do not even attempt to fix it. In fact, you just have to buy a new one if that is the case.

When choosing a mattress that you can put on the crib, make sure that you choose one that is firm. In other words, there should be little to no indentation when you press on it gently.

Also, you want there to be no separation from the edge of the mattress to the side of the crib. This is so to avoid any potential risk of suffocation. You can test this by putting two fingers in between the crib and the mattress. If your fingers fit, this means that there just too much separation and it can pose a threat to your baby.

Where you put the crib is also very important. You want to make sure that you keep the crib away from the windows. This is because if it is near some windows, babies could potentially pull the blinds, drapes, and cords which may pose a strangulation hazard to them.

Furthermore, bringing them closer to the windows means that you’re exposing them to possible weather extremes. In other words, you could bring the heat during the summertime and you can bring them to the cold when it is winter.

As much as possible, you want to remove any stuffed animals, pillows, blankets, and bumpers inside the crib at all times. The only time that you can put them inside would be if you can give your undivided attention to them.

You see, even though that it may seem that it doesn’t pose a threat, these things could potentially bring harm to your baby. If you want to put some playthings where your baby can see them, you can hang them high enough so that they won’t be able to reach it. Just the sight of the toys along would provide them the satisfaction and the joy that they need.
